Last night was our second night on the boat and this morning I wished I hadn’t had to go to the bathroom. The toilet in one of the men’s bathrooms is filled to the brim with turds. This is way more caca than one person could contribute so this must have been a planned, simultaneous blitzkreig on the bathroom during the cover of darkness last night or someone must have decided “it’s not that bad” and added to the first layer. Then someone else had the same idea, and so on. Disgusting. While I was waiting for another bathroom to open up, I took some pictures of some crazy looking moths that were attracted to the light on the back of the boat and were now resting on the wall outside the bathroom. One of them looked like the Silence of the Lambs moth!

Played some Texas Hold ‘Em poker (using matchsticks as chips) with the other anglophones this afternoon. I was the last to go out (the last loser?) on one round! I then came back downstairs to discuss our travel plans for the NE of Brazil with Meghan and about that time we got in the line that was already forming (at 4 PM) for dinner. Having eaten crackers for lunch, we were ready. I went back and grabbed the hot sauce before being allowed entry into the air-con dining hall in the back of the boat. An oasis of tranquility in the madness of being at sea on the Amazon. Made a few friends by sharing the hot sauce. Dinner was either rice or spaghetti, topped with a ground beef stew with potatoes, carrots and peas.

After dinner, we were both craving something sweet (thanks Mrs. T - you have spoiled us!), so we went upstairs and had a cup of orange soda and some candies vaguely resembling Peanut M&M’s. The sun was going down, which is (in my opinion) the second best time of day to take pictures outside, so we went to the back of the upper deck and took some pics and fired up the GPS to get our coordinates for this post. Then the Aussie named Jerrod taught us a crazy drinking game where you cluck like a chicken. I wrote down the rules in my diary, but don’t worry there aren’t very many - which makes for a perfect drinking game.
