Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio
3 11 2004Woke up and went to PNMA after stopping for some pastries and good-for-6-months milk (how?) for breakfast. Didn’t see much on the Cathedral Point trail, until about 3/4 through, where we snuck up on a family of monkeys playing and eating. They didn’t see us at all. At one point, the mom, w/ a baby on her back, came bouncing down the trail right at us then froze about 6 ft from us, Meghan took a photo and I rolled the movie camera to catch it retreating from us. Then it told the others and they left. We found them again, this time one broke branches on us while I was busy getting a shot of a coati in a tree eating. On the way back out, we saw numerous iguanas hanging out on the beach in the sun. We went back, packed and got on the road to Parque Nacional Rincon de la Vieja (PNRDLV). We stopped for meal #2 on the CA1 where the skinny old waiter didn’t like us. After stopping in liberia for food, we continued on up the CA1to a dirt road to PNRDLV. We had to pay a guy to open a gate on the way in since we got there after hours. We spent the night in the car.
